The Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Building and Digitalization of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia is funding a project on innovative construction by the Center Building and Infrastructure Engineering of the RWTH Aachen Campus. This includes a series of six planned large-scale fire tests of entire room cells, which will be carried out at the Erwitte Fire Testing Center of the Materials Testing Office of North Rhine-Westphalia (MPA NRW).

"Modular construction can be a key to quickly create affordable housing. (...) That is why good and targeted fire protection research is extremely important," explains Ina Scharrenbach, Minister for Home Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Construction and Digitalization of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The aim of the test series is to gain further insights into the fire resistance of modular building structures. With the tests, the CBI would like to contribute to further strengthening modular construction not only in North Rhine-Westphalia but throughout Germany and to streamline planning and approval processes in the future.
