Student University Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering 2022
What does a civil engineer actually do and what can studying environmental engineering look like? These and other questions could be asked by 10 interested students from grade 10 during the 5-day project week "Schüleruni" from 25.07. to 29.07.2022. Through numerous exciting lectures, interaction and exchange rounds, visits to various experimental and laboratory facilities, they gained insights into engineering studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at RWTH Aachen University.
In the lecture "Records of the Art of Building", organized by the Institute of Solid Construction (IMB), the students were able to get a taste of lecture hall air for the first time. Also of great interest was the excursion to the Aachen Soers wastewater treatment plant, organized by the Institute of Sanitary Engineering (ISA), where participants were able to try out their skills as young researchers in the laboratory, among other things. The students received exciting and informative insights into the topics of "BIM/Virtual Reality", just one of the many program points of the Chair of Energy Efficient Construction (E3D).
Furthermore, the Institutes of Urban Engineering and Transport (ISB), Geotechnics (GIB), Structural Analysis and Dynamics (LBB), Building Materials Science (ibac), Construction Management, Digital Construction and Robotics in Civil Engineering (ICoM), Hydraulic Engineering (IWW), Steel Construction (STB) as well as the Institute of Transportation Science (VIA) participated.
The eventful week ended with a Q&A session hosted by the faculty's Academic Advising and International Office, followed by a barbecue with potential future fellow students from the Construction Student Council.
