We are looking for a research assistant who plans and manages the construction of a multimedia laboratory which is funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation). The laboratory is supposed to allow user studies in a thermally- and ventilation-controlled environment, and will be the size of a two-person office. Moreover, the lab is intended to feature video projection on its thermally activated interior walls, as well as acoustic equipment for soundscape simulation. Simultaneous manipulation and investigation of thermal, visual, and acoustical environmental influences and their effect on humans is a characteristic feature of the laboratory. From the beginning, you will be involved in current projects that investigate how healthy and comfortable indoor environments can be achieved in an energy efficient way.
The research priorities of the Institute of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Building E3D are related to building performance simulation and district energy performance simulation, the development of numerical models, Building Information Modeling (BIM), modeling and simulation of building physics processes, energy monitoring as well as research in the field of occupant behavior and thermal ergonomics including physiology and sensor development. The institute consists of an interdisciplinary research team and offers fundamental and industry-oriented research, international contacts and a modern working environment with unique research and testing facilities.
- Required qualifications:
a) University degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), preferably Computer Science, Mechatronics, or Automation
b) Programming proficiency in a common language (Java, Python, C++)
- Experience in the following domains are helpful
a) Control engineering, cybernetics
b) Building automation; lighting, sound, and video (event industry)
c) Measument and data analysis
d) Enscape, Unity, Unreal Engine
- You are interested in researching topics related to acoustic, visual, and thermal comfort in buildings as wells as the effects on humans
- Very good German and English skills (both languages required)
- Conscientious work style, persistence, communicative appearance
- Interest in further scientific qualification (Ph.D.)
Your Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning and project management of the laboratory design, tendering, and construction
- Research on energy efficient climatization strategies and systems (independent of the lab's degree of completion)
- Publication of scientific results in energy and civil engineering journals and at national and international conferences
- Participation in teaching activities and institute administration

What We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and limited to two years. An extention for 1 year is planned.
This is a full-time position with the possibility of a part-time contract upon request.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary corresponds to pay grade EG 13 TV-L of the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
