Approval of funding for the Collaborative Research Center / Transregio 280
The foundations for a new way of building
The long-standing research association of RWTH Aachen University and TU Dresden has received approval from the DFG for the joint application to establish and fund the "SFB/Transregio 280". This means that the first four years of the 12-year Collaborative Research Center, which focuses on strategy development for carbon concrete structures and aims to develop new concepts for resource-saving and minimalized-material construction, can now begin.
Professor Hegger, as spokesman of the interdisciplinary research team of the RWTH, will accompany the fundamental research of the joint project. This project deliberately questions traditional design principles and breaks away from conventional patterns of thought, inspired by botany, mathematics, and art. The creation of a basis for a new way of building with concrete relies specifically on adaptive manufacturing methods in the production process and continuous evaluation of sustainability over the entire life cycle of carbon concrete structures. Thus, current developments and issues are taken up to create trend-setting paths for sustainable construction methods in the future.
