Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is a complementary advisory service to study counselling and teaching coordination. Together we want to talk about your current study situation and possible challenges in a one-to-one interview. We are your contact, especially in the introductory phase, but also during the course of your studies. We support our students until they make the transition from university to professional life.

What is mentoring not?

Mentoring is no substitute for study guidance.

In mentoring, we do not provide any information on questions of examination law. Please contact your colleagues in the Student Advisory Service and Teaching Coordination.

Who is mentoring aimed at?

This personal and individual advisory service is open to all students of our faculty, is free of charge and is subject to confidentiality.

How does a mentoring interview work and how long does it take?

In a first, approx. 60-minute conversation, we will clarify the current situation together and plan further steps. Further individual appointments can follow or we can arrange additional contact persons.

Do I have to bring anything to the interview?

In preparation for the interview, we will send you a preliminary questionnaire with the appointment confirmation. You are welcome to fill this out and bring it with you to the first appointment.

What happens to my data?

If you agree, the mentor will document the interview as the basis for the following appointments. This transcript is exclusively for the mentors and will not be passed on to third parties at any time. Within the framework of BMBF funding, your data will be evaluated anonymously; we will also ask for your consent in this regard.

How often can I get mentoring?

You alone decide how often you would like to have a consultation.
