RWTH Aachen University has been awarding a teaching prize since 2001 to honor outstanding achievements in teaching at the university. In order to do justice to the diversity of the various activities and to focus on the topic of sustainability this year, the teaching prize was awarded in 2021 in the categories "Teachers" and "Sustainability". The prize money for sustainability amounts to 12,000 euros and is intended to benefit proposals that take a holistic approach to sustainability and integrate this into teaching activities.

The first teaching prize in the sustainability category is awarded to Professor Carmen Leicht-Scholten, teaching and research area Gender and Diversity in Engineering, due to her outstanding and longstanding commitment to teaching competencies for sustainable technology design across faculty boundaries. It should be emphasized that the teaching concepts not only emphasize the teaching of factual knowledge about frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals, technology assessment, and responsibility of prospective scientists but also and especially include evaluating and reflecting on the use of one's own expertise.

The award was presented this year on June 20, 2022, as part of the "Talk Lehre" conference format, which has now reached its twelfth edition as a face-to-face event at the SuperC.
