Farewell to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Josef Hegger as of August 1, 2023
Farewell to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Josef Hegger
On the ceremonial colloquium at June 9th, 2023, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Josef Hegger was bid farewell into retirement on August 1st, 2023. In a laudatory speech on the professional newspaper „Bauingenieur“ wrote Prof. Dr.-Ing. E.H Jürgen Schnell: “This is not an abrupt end of his working, instead a companion phenomenon of an inevitable change of status.“
Josef Hegger researches at the Institute of Structural Concrete integrated design principles and efficient engineering models to the carrying behavior of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and carbon concrete. The spectrum extended from modular bridge systems via structures made of high performance concrete with metallic and non-metallic reinforcements to highly insulating concrete sandwiches for facades. The solution approach includes always a triad of efficient construction principles, ressource-friendly material researches and new matched production methods.
As a site spokesperson with a interdisciplinary research team of RWTH Aachen, Prof. Hegger furthermore accompany the research of the SFB/TRR 280 to the carbon concrete. His chairmanship in the standards comittee „Bemessung und Konstruktion“ (dimensioning and construction) for structural concrete will be continued by him until the national application document to the new Eurocode 2 is available.
In the last 30 years Prof. Hegger has developed, at RWTH Aachen the Institute of Structural Concrete to an international visible research facility in massive construction. Many persons from the collegium, former doctoral students and acquaintances went to Aachen, to celebrate the exceptional researcher Josef Hegger.
