Open Educational Resources - Initiative

An Open Educational Resources Initiative (OER) was launched at the Faculty of Civil Engineering as part of the digitization strategy of the RWTH Aachen University.

Within the context of this initiative, various videos on learning content as well as on basic and current research projects in the field of civil engineering are made available on the Faculty's You-Tube channel. All institutes of the faculty participate in the creation of theses teachings and research videos, such that a new video is added weekly. These are not only for self-study but also provide unique insights into current research projects.

The main aim of the initiative is to provide worldwide open and free access to the videos for various target groups. The OER media of the Faculty of Civil Engineering should, therefore, be used by other universities and integrated into teaching. Although they contain detailed recordings and visualizations, they do not contain detailed explanations. This enables lecturers from other universities to use their own explanations.

Overall, the Open Educational Resources Initiative thus enables systematic integration of digital teaching and learning content into university teaching as well as open, time- and location-independent access to educational content from the field of civil engineering.
